hmn is an event series organised by Anne Tallentire and Chris Fite-Wassilak. They describe it as a
quarterly sound-based test centre.
I made this performance for
hmn 2, which took place Underneath West India Quay DLR Bridge in Canary Wharf, London, in May 2015. The title
Relaxation time is a play on words. It could be understood to relate in some way to leisure, but the term also refers to a concept in Physics which was employed by
Stafford Beer in relation to his theories of Complex Dynamic Systems. In a Physics context, relaxation time is taken to mean, "The characteristic time for a system to reach an equilibrium condition after a disturbance".
Hmn has a 'no-documentation policy'. The video below was shot on-site an half and hour or so before the performance took place.
