anti-tour no. 2 - the nineties

The anti-tours project emerged initially from a consideration of the four space-specific sound-performances in Brazil that formed part of http://alpha60.info, my project for the 2004 São Paulo Bienal. The changes in my own attitude to recorded music were another important factor.
A call out for participants was circulated locally.
"I would like to play in domestic spaces in Dublin city centre. I am interested in apartments in buildings that were built in the 90s. The 'tour' will run from Saturday October 21st to Friday October 27th inclusive. The idea is simple. We agree on a day. I come to play at your apartment. I use your stereo as amplification. You invite some friends. You make me a meal as payment. "
I played in five apartments in just under a week, all of which had been built during the Celtic Tiger boom. As it was impossible to schedule the performances to coincide with Magic Hour, I decided to play a DVD which slowly shifted from white to black over the course of 30 minutes. Each performance was timed to end at midnight. I was thinking of this work as a kind of post-occupancy evaluation.
